Christopher is Old Whalers’ solo pastor, primary preacher and supervisor of staff.
Christopher loves preaching, teaching and involvement in mission and social justice issues. He enjoys his role as the head of session, which is the leadership and ruling body of the church.
Christopher is originally from the Midwest , born in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he served as an elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church. While living in Chicago and attending McCormick Theological Seminary he served First Presbyterian Church of Chicago, and did street mission on the south side neighborhoods.. He is currently working a play called “Cries in the Park” which is a series of monologues he has written over the years, about the lives of homeless people, who tell their stories from their perspective.
Christopher met his lifelong partner Ron when they were performing in a show called “Bouncing Off Walls” in Chicago. Christopher has a lifelong love of music having performed in various theater companies throughout the Midwest as well as traveling for one year in an international cast of Up With People in their premier show “Beat of the Future.”
“Serving in the church has been a lifelong dream for me. As a second career (new) pastor I particularly like the daily contact that I have with people on their spiritual journeys. I especially enjoy the work of crafting and delivering sermons each week as I strive to connect the text with “what’s happening in the world today.”
Old Whalers’ is an amazing church that serves the community in a variety of ways. If you have lived in or near the village chances are you have had a connection in some way over the years with this wonderful church and congregation. Since arriving in September of 2015 I am amazed at the countless number of people who express to me that Old Whalers’ church is “their” church. Ours is a church that is open to everyone and everyone is welcome!
