Welcome! - Sunday, February 07, 2010

Welcome

Rejoice in the good news! On Sunday, Feb. 7, the congregation voted unanimously to call Rev. Mark F. Phillips as the pastor of Old Whalers’ Church. After a weekend of fellowship events for members and friends to get to know Pastor Mark, he conducted the Sunday worship service, which included Communion and a children’s message that gave the kids a chance to ask him questions to get better acquainted. At the congregational meeting following the service, members asked questions of Rev. Phillips and the Pastor Nominating Committee, after which a vote was taken by confidential ballot. The Sunday School served a wonderful brunch afterwards to celebrate.

We look forward eagerly to the beginning of Pastor Mark’s ministry in Sag Harbor, in mid-April, and invite one and all to share our joy and excitement about the future at First Presbyterian! (Please click the Additional Info tab to learn more about Pastor Mark.)

We are located at 44 Union Street, Sag Harbor, NY 11963.

Haiti - a note from our Pastor - Thursday, January 28, 2010
Hello,
As you are all aware, the disastrous earthquake in Haiti has brought world-wide commitments of money, food, clothing, medicine and search and rescue efforts. As a member of a connectional church, OW supports the PCUSA in wider mission and support efforts. The Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Funds, staff, and volunteers are in a unique position to respond to this emergency. As a congregation in Sag Harbor, let us also be mindful of relationships and efforts that we may assist through local relief organizations, the Mattituck Presbyterian Church and others. Working together as a church family, I'm sure we can extend the hand of Christian compassion from our prayers to our pantries and change purses.

Peace, Pastor Jeannine
